Homicide Cold Case Unit

Welcome to the Columbus Division of Police’s Homicide Cold Case Unit website.  We are continuously striving to provide new and innovative ways in which to get information to the community we serve, in an effort to solicit their assistance in the identifying, apprehending, and successfully prosecuting those who have committed murder in our City.  Our mission is to provide complete and thorough investigations for all of our victims and to be compassionate to the families and communities impacted by this crime. Please search the unsolved/cold cases and if you have any information regarding these cases, please contact the Homicide Cold Case Unit at 614-645-4036.  Any information you have may provide a voice for those victims who cannot speak for themselves.

The Cold Case Unit is comprised of one sergeant and five detectives; all with extensive homicide investigative experience.  The unit is responsible for over 700 unsolved/cold cases dating back to the 1950’s.  With so many cases to choose from, unsolved cases are only opened and actively worked as “cold cases” when: new information is received, the case is assessed and has a sufficient number of solvability factors to warrant an active investigation, or when asked by the currently assigned homicide detective to give the case a fresh look.

If you need to reach one of our detectives, please contact them at their phone numbers or e-mail addresses listed here on the website.  If you have difficulty reaching a detective, or are not sure which detective you need to speak with, you may contact the Investigative Subdivision Duty Desk at 614-645-4624, staffed 24-hours.

Rewards may be available for information on a case that leads to a conviction by contacting Central Ohio’s Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477 or going to their website at www.stopcrime.org.
