Deputy Chief Antone P. Lanata

Deputy Chief Antone Lanata is a 40-year veteran of the Columbus Division of Police. He is currently assigned to the Investigative Subdivision and also oversees the Columbus Police Honor Guard. Over the last 14 years as Deputy Chief, he has also held assignments in the Patrol Subdivision and Support Services Subdivision. Progressing up through the ranks he held assignments in Patrol, Legal Unit, Training Academy, Detective Bureau, Inspections, Organized Crime and Traffic Bureaus.

 

Selecting basic and elective courses in psychology, law, media relations, and administrative management, Deputy Chief Lanata attended The Ohio State University, Ohio Dominican University and the Capital University Law School. He also was a graduate of the 132nd session of the FBI National Academy and has served as president of the Ohio chapter of the F.B.I. National Academy Associates.

 

Deputy Chief Lanata has taught and lectured for a number of private and public organizations. As a training consultant, he assisted in the planning and development of a national training seminar for public and private law enforcement agencies dealing with civil liabilities, use of firearms and psychological problems encountered by law enforcement officers when exposed to the use of deadly force.

 

Currently he is responsible for overseeing the investigations of all homicides, assaults, sex crimes, robberies, burglaries, police related shootings, narcotics, and vice related issues. Other major accomplishments and responsibilities include being assigned to the police collective bargaining negotiating team, redevelopment of the police cadet training and testing programs, development of the forerunner to the present in-service firearms training program, organization and establishment of a special police anti-fencing unit and the research and presentation of major pieces of legislation to the Ohio House and Ohio Senate.

 

As a native of Columbus, Deputy Chief Lanata lives in Clintonville with his wife. He has one daughter who also works for the Division of Police as a Property Evidence Technician.
